The next meeting of the Clinton Township/Factoryville Borough Joint Municipal Park and Recreation Board will be Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 7 PM at 161 College Avenue in the Factoryville Public Library located in the back of the Borough Building. Agenda includes planning for the upcoming construction of shed building. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Winga Siwale, the men's and women's soccer coach at Keystone College will train the coaches of the newly formed Trail Youth Soccer League. Coach Siwale will conduct clinics throughout the Spring and Summer to prepare the coaches for the upcoming Fall Soccer Season. The league is still in need of coaches for the 5,6 and 7 year old division. Anyone interested in helping out, please call Dennis Mulvey at 945-9279.

The Factoryville Women Civic League will meet on Tuesday, May 13th at 7:30 PM, at the Mathewson Apts. Community Room on Maple St. New members are encouraged to attend.
The Annual Spring Clean-up will be conducted by the Borough on May 12th to the 16th.Call the Borough at 945-7484 to sign up. Price per truck load $45.00. Fees must by paid by May 7th.
The Factoryville Public Library, located in back of the Borough Hall, on College Ave, is opened 5 days per week with the following hours: Mon.- 7pm-9pm, Tues.-2pm-5pm with storytime at 3:30pm, Wed 11am-4pm, Thurs.-10:30am-12:30pm, with storytime at 11:30am, and Sat.- 10am-12pm. The Factoryville Arbor Day Celebration took place on Friday, April 25, at 3 p.m. at the parking lot across from Ray's. Market. District Forester, Jim Kessler presented the "Tree City" designation to Factoryville. Liz Ratchford, Administrator Coordinator accepted the "Tree City Flag". The Girl Scouts, 7th and 8th grade students,from Lackawanna Trail, under the supervision of their troop leader, Deb Sweppenheiser, planted, mulched and watered the Evergreen Tree. The tree, donated by Tom Stark, is a memorial for Paul Sweppenheiser. The Factoryville Fire Company, along with the community will be decorating the tree each Christmas.

The next meeting of The Factoryville Shade Tree Commission will take place on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 2 PM at 161 College Ave, Factoryville Borough Bldg. The agenda includes discussion of clearance and maintenance pruning along all of the streets of Factoryville. The Public is welcome.
The monthly meeting of the parish youth group from the Church of Our Lady of the Abingtons will be held on Sunday, May 4th, from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Spring and Summer activities will be planned and pizza and refreshments will be served. All are invited.
It is not too late to order 10-inch Mother's Day Hanging Basket Flowers from the Factoryville Public Library. You may choose from fuchsia, impatiens, petunia, wax begonia and ivy geranium. Come to the library to order your selection or call 945-5458.
The Burning Ordinance states that every fire shall be confined to a non-combustible container and no closer than 15 feet to any building.....4pm-8pm Mon.-Fri. and 9am-8pm on Saturday and Sunday. A permit is needed for other types of burning.
Parks are closed from 10:00 p.m.- 5:00 a.m. No person shall be in any park during the hours the park is closed. Dennis Mulvey, the Soccer Coach, is looking for any adult volunteers that would like to coach or help with the league in any way. Please call Dennis at 945-9279 for information.
The Borough will be conducting its annual Spring Clean-up during the week of May 12th-to May 16th. Price per truckload is $ 45.00. Call the Borough or stop by to sign up: tel. 945-7484. Fees must be pre-paid by May 7, 2008.
Lock missing. The padlock for the little shed is not there. If you have been at the park since last Friday afternoon, it is hoped that you may have accidentally taken the lock from the shed home with you. The shed was all closed up but no lock anywhere. It is hoped that if you have it please return it to the shed. If not returned the lock maker will have to make a new lock for all of the keys that have been distributed to the families.

4/20/2008 Keystone College hosted a luncheon, on Monday, April 14th for some members of the Factoryville, LaPlume and Clinton Township Communities and shared updated campus plans and vision for future shared plans. Dr. Edward Boehm, President of the College shared the updated campus plans for the future. The entire Third Grade Students, from Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center walked to Keystone College on Thursday, April 17th, and had a tour of the campus. They visited an 1863 classroom, teachers(students), in homemade long dresses, hoop -skirt and bonnet and a quiz on the Civil War;- they visited the wetlands and had an explanation of tadpoles to frogs;-had a class on rolling seeds mixed with soil around clay, to be planted in their own gardens;- had a tour of a dormitory room;- and had lunch in the cafeteria, compliments of Keystone College. and observed part of a volleyball game. An enjoyable time was had by all.
Liz Ratchford, Chairperson, of the Factoryville Shade Tree Commission sent out a message that Tom Stark, of Natures Nitch, gave us some balled and burlapped trees, too heavy for children and scouts, and needed adults to help. Dan Morse dugged the holes with his backhoe, as work began at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, 4/19/2008. the volunteers are to be commended on the hard work that went into the planting process. David Truitt, from College Ave., was the youngest member of the work force.

Come to the library and place your order. The Library is also having its annual Book Sale on Saturday, April 26th. from 9 AM-2 PM. There are many nice books to choose.

The Factoryville Masonic Lodge will hold an all you can eat "Chicken and Biscuits Dinner", on Saturday, April 26, from 4 p.m. until sold out, at the Lodge Hall on Riverside Drive.

Property destroyed, several containers tipped over, graffiti are a few of the vandalisms occuring at the Factoryville Little League Park, last week. A message to the vandals, when caught, you will be prosecuted. Borough Parks Closing Hours: 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. No person shall be in any park during the hours the park is closed. Ordinance# 313
A pleasant day was enjoyed by all who attended the work session at the Christy Mathewson Park on Saturday, April 12th. Lunch was provided by the Factoryville Shade Tree Commission along with Frank Kaub's ooutstanding soup. While the softball and baseball teams practiced, the adults mulched and raked the gardens and fishing was enjoyed at the creek. Did you happen to see Devon Price's catch? Along with a few others he had a nice size Palomino.
An Election Day Dinner will be held at the Factoryville United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Adults $ 8.00- Children $4.00 and take-outs are available.

Are you aware that the Borough may conduct a Smoke Test to fine violators of the regulations regarding stormwater hook-ups to the Sewer System? It is a legal means to find and prosecute violators.

Clarence Evans- 4/6/2008 HAPPY BIRTHDAY:Florence Jervis and her twin sister Frances Gibbons celebrated their birthday on March 29th, when they turned 90, with a family party.
Saturday, April 12, 2008: please come to the work session at the Christy Mathewson Park. Work begins at 8 AM--mulch, tools, and lunch will be provided by the Factoryville Shade Tree Commission. Anyone unable to care for their garden this year, please contact the Factoryville Shade Tree Commission AT 945-1014, so another family may be assigned that garden. On Sunday, March 30th, SNo Mountain Superkids Supervisor Brian Jones, a Lackawanna Trail Graduate, was seen driving to the Mt. from his home in Factoryville in his Classic Car. It looked new, but it was a 1957 Chevrolet. With the Mt. closing, Brian will be working in his plant nursery, the Jones/Siekierka Nursery in Old Forge.
