Stormwater Issues were discussed at the Factoryville Borough Council Meeting
October 12 , 2011
Stormwater engineers presented information about:
· Stormwater problems in the borough and some estimates to repair these issues.
· The DEP mandated stormwater ordinance that the borough must pass, what it is and what to expect.
· Who the boroughs stormwater engineers are and how to contact them.
If you have a stormwater issue you are concerned about please contact Liz Ratchford at 945-1014 and she will make the stormwater engineers aware so they can look at the issue.

Structural posts were put up for new pavilion on July 2, 2011. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers that turned out to help with the day.

Freedom Bike Ride – Keystone College to Lewisburg

12 riders started off on the Freedom Bike Ride on June 23, 2011 from Keystone College. Riders include Paralympic Athletes, Wounded Warriors, and many Veterans.
There was a 14 year old who is riding with his Dad a veteran and stand-out athlete, Seth Lauver, who was recently paralyzed in the past year was one of the riders.
Another notable rider was Eric Frazier (Former Marine and current Paralympian).
Last year he rode his handcycle from San Francisco to Virginia Beach in 68 days with the Sea to Shining Sea Bike Ride.
It was great to cheer them on and watch these Brave Wounded Warriors bike in honor of our hometown hero Christy Mathewson.

Factoryville Memorial Day Parade and Service
Parade
began at 10 am
Parade started at Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center and traveled along College Avenue to Church Street then up hill to the Evergreen-Woodlawn Cemetery on Reynolds Avenue.
Memorial Service was held at the Veterans Memorial at the cemetery.

Utility Gator donated by Stark Bartron, Bartron Supply, for us to use for the day. It was great to have this to deliver mulch, pick up leaves and branches, all around the park.

The Factoryville Shade Tree Commission celebrated the 41 st Earth Day with 88 of Lackawanna Trail's third graders by planting flower bulbs, cleaning up trash, and taking a tour around Christy Mathewson Park. Third graders learned about the different types of trees and plants the Factoryville Shade Tree Commission plants to help the Earth continue to blossom. The Factoryville Shade Tree Commission was assisted today with this Earth Day celebration by some helping hands. Help was provided by 5 Keystone College volunteers and 1 Marywood University student.

Factoryville Women's Civic League Person of the Year for 2010:
Shirley Golembeski

Officers present Person of the Year Award for 2010: L to R, Jan Engle, Secretary, Bre Reynolds, President, Sally Price, Tresurer, Shirley Golembeski, Award recipient, Rita Nowakowski, Daughter of Shirley, and club historian, Beth O'Malley, Vice-President.
The award is presented each year in recognition of "selfless service to the community." The award was given at the annual Women's Civic League Christmas Brunch held at the Mathewson Park Apartments in Factoryville on Sunday, December 12, 2010.
Shirley has been a volunteer for multiple organizations in our community for over 15 years. Shirley always helped with Little League clean ups when her grandsons played in the Christy Mathewson Little League. Since moving into the Mathewson Park Apartments Shirley has become even more involved in our community. Shirley is a member of the Factoryville Planning Commission. Shirley is active with the Factoryville Shade Tree Commission, she helps the Women's Civic League with events, she helps cook for community dinners and church events, she quietly cares for the flowers and planters in town, and helps drive senior citizens in our area to appointments.
Shirley is a true asset to our community. If you see her please congratulate her for this well deserved honor.
Factoryville Tree Lighting and Meet the Community event was held on December 4, 2010:

HOLIDAY SEASON KICKS OFF in Factoryville
Factoryville PA, December 6, 2010: About a dozen civic organizations, along with residents and friends celebrated the start of the holiday season with a Christmas open house at the Factoryville borough hall on Saturday, December 4.
Girl Scouts from the borough spent the afternoon making and hanging birdseed ornaments on the 20-foot spruce tree in front of the borough building.
Factoryville Shade Tree Commission members decorated the tree with strands of LED Christmas lights, considered safer and more energy-efficient than traditional Christmas lights.
Factoryville Boy Scouts manned the bonfire and toasted marshmallows.
Members of the Trail Rotary Club, Lackawanna Trail PTO, Factoryville Men's Civic Club, Factoryville Women's Civic League, and Factoryville Sportsmen's Club were on hand to greet neighbors with cider, hot chocolate, coffee and other treats.
Mayor Gary Evans, along with members of the Factoryville borough council, offered thanks and best wishes to those in attendance.
Dr. Ned Boehm, president of Keystone College was also in attendance, along with his wife Regina and other members of the Keystone family.
Santa Claus, escorted to the event by the Factoryville fire company, greeted the children and lit the borough Christmas tree.
Everyone gathered around the tree to sing carols led by students from Lackawanna Trail and by members of the Factoryville United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Factoryville.

Thanks to the Factoryville Fire Company for bringing Santa to the borough hall to light the tree!

Factoryville Daisy Troop recently planted flowers at the Memorial Day Garden at the Woodlawn Evergreen Cemetery and in the planters at the businesses along College Avenue.

Make a Decoration and Tree Lighting Celebration
with Girl Scout Troops 48 and 73 in 2009

Local Factoryville Girl Scout Troops 48 and 73 with the community made decorations and decorated the Christmas Tree at 161 College Avenue in front of the Borough Hall Building .
Keystone College Students planted mums to beautify our planters for the United Way Day of Caring.

Justin Clark worked on a wetland demonstration area at the Clinton Township - Factoryville Borough Joint Municipal park located at 154 Creek Road in Clinton Township just across the street from the Clinton Township Municipal building.

The Factoryville Men's Civic Club recently rebuilt the outdoor classroom at Christy Mathewson Park.

Thank you for putting your Christmas trees on the curb for the Borough to pick up ~ trees will be chopped into mulch and wood chips for the walking trail and gardens at Christy Mathewson Park. Recycle your trees, it is good for the environment!

Factoryville Borough was incorporated in 1883. Our borough hall building was constructed as the Six Principal Baptist Chruch in 1855, it has been a public meeting place and community building since 1907.

Pictured above are the new planters at our businesses along College Avenue. This was done by volunteers and Juvenile probation workers on July 15th. If you are a business along College Avenue and would like planters please contact The Factoryville Shade Tree Commission at 945-1014.

The sidewalks, streetlights, new curbs, and new public parking area on College Avenue across from Ray's Market are completed. Decorative bases will be installed on the new steel poles this fall.

College Avenue Streetscape Project
This project included new sidewalks to both sides of College Avenue, a paved public parking area across from Rays Market, new streetlights, new decorative steel utility poles, and handicapped access to all curbs and sidewalks. Trees and landscaping will also be part of this exciting project.

This project funded by multiple state and federal funding sources.
4 different funding programs through the Transportation Enhancement Program, these federal funds help communities improve their main street to enhance pedestrian transportation.
CDBG funding, federal funds to help with handicapped accessibility.
Aqua Pennsylvania helped with a donation to help complete the concrete sidewalks along College Avenue as part of their water line replacement project.
Keystone College has been an important community partner in this project and has provided financial assistance to help make this project a reality.
The total amount of funds secured for this project are over a million dollars. College Avenue Streetscape
